Light Leaks

I got my film from California developed today (Taken with a Mamiya NC 1000s). All of the pictures turned out correctly exposed which was great! I was most scared about that aspect of the photos, since the light meter was broken, and I had to set everything manually. The only downfall to this camera was the unexpected light leaks! They seem to have made their way into almost all of the photos, which completely shocked me. The camera is in very good shape, and I still have no idea where the crack is. I'm sure i'll find it with a bit more hunting though. Anyways, light leaks aside, these are some of my favourite shots from the trip down to Santa Cruz:

California Dreaming

This week I've spent in Santa Cruz, California. It's so beautiful here! I'm so in love with the ocean, and the sunny weather makes the days picture perfect. We've surfed, shopped, longboarded, and laid in the sun. The trip has been wonderful so far. Here are some of my favourite shots from the trip thus far:

These pictures will be up on my flickr is about a week, so check back for high res shots later!

A Simple Roll of Film

Today I finally got my roll of film developed (from my three dollar-thrift store camera). I'm actually really happy with most of the results! I had completely forgotten about some moments I documented, and I guess that is the beautiful part of photography. It's the main reason why I adore it so very much. Being able to relived moments in which are long gone, and being able to hold them in your hand, and flip through them whenever you like. They will forever be captured in ink, and the memories will follow along. Here are some of my favourites from this roll:

Dying For Some Inspiration

I've literally been sitting here for far too long, staring at this blank page, thinking of what to tell you about. I haven't done anything worth writing about, and that needs to change. I'm in desperate need of an adventure. Any takers?

“When you do something noble and beautiful and nobody noticed, do not be sad. For the sun every morning is a beautiful spectacle and yet most of the audience still sleeps.”
John Lennon

I really want to try and make an effort to wake up early this summer. We only have so many mornings in our life times, and sleeping them away makes me feel wasteful of hours I could have been exploring and doing things. I'm going to wake up early tomorrow, maybe make a pretty breakfast for myself or something. I encourage you to do the same!

Spontaneous Adventures

Last night, it was randomly decided that we were to go to White Rock, BC, for the evening. I'm actually surprised that it worked out for all of us to meet up there (usually we are rubbish at deciding hangouts, and everyone comes an hour late). We bought over-priced ice cream, walked the pier, ate pizza and watched the sunset (almost). Needless to say, we had a wonderful time. Here are my favourite pictures from the evening:

And of course, high resolution photos can be found on my flickr.

DIY Ombre Jean Shirt

Hey guys! So the weather was beautiful today, and it got me feeling creative. I've seen many DIY's like this, so I decided to try it out, and see what worked best for me. I took pictures of the process, and I'll give you a step by step on how I did it, if you keep reading!

Things You Will Need:

-Regular bleach (Javex, Clorox etc.)
-A jean shirt/vest
-A bucket
-Water
-An elastic, to mark where you want the bleach to go up too
-Rubber gloves

Also! Just in case the bleach splashes around, you might want to wear older clothes you dont mind wrecking.

Step 1: Get yourself into a well ventilated area (you definitely don't want to be breathing this stuff in!), I chose to do it outside. Start out by pouring your bleach into your tub/bucket of choice. The ratio is about 1:1, water to bleach. You can use smaller ratios of water, or even 100% bleach, but you will have less control of the result the less water you add (adding water basically just slows down the process).

Step 2: Tie off (using the elastic) how high up you want the bleach to go. I chose to go up to about half way. Submerge the ends straight away, slowing working your way up to the elastic. Move the fabric around (with gloves!) in the bleach in order to get at every piece.

Step 3: Slowly work your way up to the elastic, in order to make the bottom fade nicely to the top colour. Keep the shirt submerged in the bleach for as long as you want, until the colour is what you desire. It's super easy to see how light the fabric is getting, which allows you to pull it out whenever you want to.

Step 4: Ta-da! Once the colour is to your liking, take it out! Rinse off the initial bleach that is still soaked into the shirt (since I was outside, I used the hose, which made it really easy). The shirt will still smell like bleach at this point, and it may still have some soaked inside it. Be really careful the first time you wash the article of clothing in the washing machine, because it could very well run into other clothes!

I hope you found this insightful and inspiring! It's really the easiest thing to do, and it give your clothes a whole new look about them. Leave a comment below if you have any tips you think I should add, or anything you have to say about this DIY. Thanks for reading, and happy bleaching!

Filmy Film Film.

I adore experimenting with film. Recently, I been trying out different antique cameras that have been lying around my basement, and seeing which I like best. These photos are taken with my Konica C35 EF P (If that means anything to any of you). Getting these pictures developed and printed was like Christmas morning. I had no idea what to expect, and the product came out pretty good! Here are my favourites, sooc:

We’re all going to die, all of us, what a circus! That alone should make us love each other but it doesn’t. We are terrorized and flattened by trivialities, we are eaten up by nothing.
-Charles Bukowski

We are all on this earth together, experiencing the same hardships, feeling the same joy. so why then, are we so separate from everyone else?

Say "Hello" to a stranger this week.

Canada Day Celebrations

So I definitely had the best Canada Day ever. Free concerts all day, and perfect weather. After driving to and from Vancouver airport with Maddy, we made our way to Surrey for all the festivities. We saw a ton of The Peak Performance Artists, and also Andrew Allen, Hannah Georgas and Sam Roberts! It was such a great day, I couldn't have asked for anything better to start off the summer with! Here are my favourite picture from the day:

Happy Canada Day everyone!
