DIY Perfectly Pressed Petals

Today I decided to press some flowers! My backyard is full of all different leaves and flowers to pick, so it was a good place to start. The surprise of taking the flowers out of the press reminds me of my childhood, and pressing petals and leaves with my Grandma. Here is a step-by-step guide in pressing your own flowers.

1. Get yourself a flower press! This certain one alternates cardboard and parchment paper. But don't worry if you don't have one, because you could also use a large book (dictionary, encyclopedia, Bible etc.) but I would suggest placing the flowers on white paper before pressing, so that you don't wreck the book with the pollen stains from the flowers.

2. Place your flowers around the page. You can fill it up as much as you like, or place one flower on each page, whatever you like! Try and find flowers that are at flat as possible, if it has a really long steam, make sure to cut it off. I flattened all the flowers with my hands before laying them down.

 

3. I always place my flowers face down, so I can get an idea of how the petals are going to press, and so I can make sure the petals are not overlapping (unless you want them too!)

4. The flowers should be finished pressing within 2-3 days, depending on the type of flower. I'll post a follow up DIY for what I am going to do with the petals once they are nicely flattened and dried. Stay tuned!

Live at Squamish - Day Two

Day two was spectacular. The Harpoonist and the Axe Murderer, Plants and Animals, The Rural Alberta Advantage, The Airborne Toxic Event, Mother Mother, and City and Colour to wrap everything up very nicely. Post-Prom Photos (Nice Alliteration Eh?)

Today was a beautiful day! I went out and shot some post-prom grad pictures. The weather was drizzly for our prom day, and it was hard to find anywhere dry to go and take photos. We decided we would be better off to dress up again, and go out another day when the weather was more agreeable. People were a little confused when they saw us walking around town, but hey, you gotta do what you gotta do for a great shot. Here are my favourites of Sarah from the day:

I couldn't be happier with the way these pictures turned out! It was hard to pick the best ones to post! The day was perfect and the locations we chose were wonderful.

Light Leaks

I got my film from California developed today (Taken with a Mamiya NC 1000s). All of the pictures turned out correctly exposed which was great! I was most scared about that aspect of the photos, since the light meter was broken, and I had to set everything manually. The only downfall to this camera was the unexpected light leaks! They seem to have made their way into almost all of the photos, which completely shocked me. The camera is in very good shape, and I still have no idea where the crack is. I'm sure i'll find it with a bit more hunting though. Anyways, light leaks aside, these are some of my favourite shots from the trip down to Santa Cruz:

A Simple Roll of Film

Today I finally got my roll of film developed (from my three dollar-thrift store camera). I'm actually really happy with most of the results! I had completely forgotten about some moments I documented, and I guess that is the beautiful part of photography. It's the main reason why I adore it so very much. Being able to relived moments in which are long gone, and being able to hold them in your hand, and flip through them whenever you like. They will forever be captured in ink, and the memories will follow along. Here are some of my favourites from this roll:

Happy Birthday Canada!

Hello July! For me, it feels like summer officially starts today. Even though the weather is not cooperating as much as I would like it too, that's not going to stop us from celebrating our beautiful country. I can't wait for the day to begin, it's going to be a fantastic kick-off to the summer months ahead; even if it is rainy!
